Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Venture Collectives Co. ("Venture Collectives," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with the early access and beta version of our platform, applications, websites, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").
Because the Platform is currently in early access and beta, with open account signup but invitation-gated access to specific collectives and select features, this Policy is intentionally broad to cover the range of data practices we may adopt as features are activated, tested, refined, or retired. We will update this Policy as the Platform matures toward general availability.
By accessing or using the Platform, you consent to the data practices described in this Policy.
Scope and Early Access Context
Beta Data Practices. Because features are actively being built, tested, and changed, our data collection and processing practices may change more frequently than they would for a mature product. We may add, remove, or change data fields, analytics, integrations, or storage practices as part of ongoing development.
Test and Placeholder Data. During early access, we may use test accounts, seed data, or placeholder content for development and quality assurance purposes. We will take reasonable steps not to expose real User data unnecessarily during this process, but you should be aware that beta environments carry elevated operational risk compared to a mature production environment.
Feature-Specific Data Practices. Certain features (see "How Feature Status Affects Data Handling" below) are not yet fully activated. Data practices described in this Policy for those features are anticipatory and describe how we intend to handle data once such features go live, subject to change as those features are built out and subject to any additional regulatory or contractual requirements (including those referenced in "Data Retention" below).
Geographic Scope. Venture Collectives Co. is based in Canada, and this Policy is written primarily around Canadian privacy law (including PIPEDA) on the basis that the Platform is currently made available to Canadian-based Users. We intend to expand availability to additional markets over time. As that expansion occurs, we will update this Policy to reflect additional legal bases, rights, and safeguards applicable to Users in those markets (see "Your Rights and Choices" and "International Data Transfers" below).
Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
Account and profile information: name, email address, phone number, organization affiliation, role/member type (e.g., builder, operator/expert, investor/funder), bio, profile photo, links, and similar profile content.
Collective, space, project, and event content: content you create or submit when building profiles, participating in spaces, creating or joining projects, publishing or attending events, or creating and browsing catalog listings.
Communications: messages, feedback, support requests, and survey responses you send us or other Users through the Platform.
Verification and collective access information: information provided or verified when you request access to a specific collective or a gated feature, including any invitation source, referral, or approval details.
Payment and transaction information (where applicable, as marketplace and P2P features are activated): billing details, transaction records, and information related to engagements, bookings, memberships, or fund contributions. Where feasible, payment card data is processed by third-party payment processors rather than stored directly by us (see "How We Share Information" below).
Information Collected Automatically
Usage data: pages and features accessed, actions taken, timestamps, referring/exit pages, and interaction patterns.
Device and technical data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and general location derived from IP address.
Cookies and similar technologies: used for authentication, preferences, analytics, and (where applicable) measuring feature adoption during beta testing. See "Cookies and Tracking Technologies" below.
Information From Third Parties
Information from identity verification or invitation-referral sources, where used as part of a request to access a specific collective or a gated feature.
Information from integrated third-party services you choose to connect (e.g., calendar, communication, or payment integrations), subject to your permissions with those services.
How Feature Status Affects Data Handling
Open Features. For currently available features — profiles, spaces, projects, events, and catalogs — we collect and use the information described above to operate, display, and improve those features, including making relevant profile, project, event, and catalog information visible to other Users as intended by the feature (for example, a public catalog listing is, by design, visible to other Users).
Features In Development. For P2P and marketplace-style features that are still in development and not fully activated — including crowdfunding, SPV creation, and fund contribution/handling — we anticipate collecting additional information as needed to operate those features once launched, which may include enhanced identity verification, financial or accreditation-related information, and transaction records. Any such data collection will be subject to applicable regulatory requirements and approvals, and we will update this Policy with specifics (including any additional consents required) before such features are generally activated.
No Securities-Related Data Use for Advice. Because we do not trade, offer, or manage securities on the Platform (see our Terms of Use), we do not use information collected through the Platform to provide investment advice or make investment decisions on your behalf. Any information related to off-platform securities transactions that Users may reference on the Platform (e.g., in project descriptions) is treated as User Content under our Terms of Use and is not independently verified or acted upon by us as investment guidance.
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Platform, including the open features described in "Open Features" above;
Build, test, and evaluate features still in development, including the P2P/marketplace features described in "Features In Development" above, subject to applicable regulatory requirements;
Facilitate connections and interactions between Users (e.g., builders, operators/experts, and investors/funders) within collectives, spaces, projects, and events;
Process transactions and fees where applicable (e.g., memberships, bookings/engagements) using third-party payment processors;
Communicate with you about your account, the Platform, invitations, updates, and support;
Monitor, secure, and troubleshoot the Platform, including detecting fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Use;
Conduct analytics and research to inform product decisions during and after the beta period;
Comply with legal obligations, including anti-money-laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) requirements where applicable to fund-handling features;
Manage access to invitation-gated collectives and features, including verifying eligibility and access requests.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.
How We Share Information
We may share information:
With other Users, where sharing is inherent to a feature (e.g., your profile, space activity, project involvement, event RSVP, or catalog listing being visible to other Users or the public, depending on your settings and the feature's design);
With service providers and processors who perform services on our behalf, such as hosting, analytics, customer support, communications, identity verification, and payment processing, under confidentiality and data protection obligations;
With payment processors and financial institutions, for features involving fees, bookings, escrow, or fund handling, to the extent such features are activated;
For legal reasons, including to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, including AML/KYC obligations or securities regulator inquiries relevant to features described in "Features In Development" above;
In connection with a business transaction, such as a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections;
With your consent, for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection.
We do not knowingly share information in a manner that would constitute offering, trading, or managing securities on your behalf, consistent with our Terms of Use.
How We Share Information
We use cookies and similar technologies to authenticate Users, remember preferences, and understand how the Platform is used, including which beta features are adopted and how. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may limit certain Platform functionality.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as necessary to operate the Platform, fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, and comply with legal obligations. Because the Platform is in early access, we may periodically reset, migrate, or delete test or beta environment data as part of development; we will make reasonable efforts to preserve genuine User account data through such changes but cannot guarantee against data loss during this period (see the Disclaimers section of our Terms of Use).
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and given the active development status of the Platform, you should exercise discretion about the sensitivity of information you share, particularly ahead of full activation of the features described in "Features In Development" above.
Your Rights and Choices
As the Platform is currently offered primarily to Canadian-based Users, your rights are presently governed mainly by Canadian privacy law (including PIPEDA and applicable provincial legislation). Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to:
Access, correct, or update your personal information;
Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements;
Object to or restrict certain processing;
Request a portable copy of your information;
Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
You can exercise many of these rights directly through your account settings, or by contacting us at help@venturecollectives.co. Deleting your account will end your access to the Platform, including any collectives or gated features you had been granted access to; being removed from or declined access to a specific collective does not, on its own, affect your underlying account.
International Data Transfers
Venture Collectives is based in Canada, and information is primarily processed and stored in Canada, though it may also be processed or stored in other countries where our service providers operate. As we expand availability to Users in other markets, cross-border transfers may increasingly flow the other way (e.g., from a new market into Canada, or through sub-processors elsewhere). Where required by applicable law, we will use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
Children's Privacy
The Platform is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.
Third-Party Links and Integrations
The Platform may contain links to, or integrations with, third-party websites or services (including, potentially, capital platforms or payment processors referenced as part of future roadmap features). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and this Policy does not apply to them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy as the Platform evolves from early access toward general availability, including as features described in "Features In Development" are activated. We will post the updated Policy with a revised "Last updated" date and, where changes are material, will make reasonable efforts to notify Users directly.
