In an era where we can build whatever we want, for whoever we want, and however we want - there's no single playbook for venture building. And there's certainly for cities to architect ecosystems (regardless of which part of the debates you fall - start-ups or scale-ups, venture or angel, etc.).
With the barriers to access gone, builders have the agency to assemble allies, experts and resources — without the gatekeepers.
When everything else gets cheap to generate, trust, courage and precision become the scarce resource, the one thing no model can manufacture. Agents hungry for relationship context on who’s built with whom.
Collectives aren't mainstream, and that's not an accident. They hand agency to the people doing the work instead of the gatekeepers managing them, and gatekeepers rarely give that up on their own. Real collectives are hard to build: no playbook, no shared tools, no incentive for whoever holds the resources to help it happen. That's the actual gap. Not that collectives repeat the same work, but that the model has never had the infrastructure to take hold and compound.
